Unlocking Serenity: The Power Equation [Time + Action = The Death of Anxiety]

Time + Action = The Death to Anxiety

In the face of limited time, stress tends to accumulate. As tasks pile up, anxiety becomes a familiar companion, bringing forth questions like, 'When will I complete this?' or 'Can I meet the deadline?' These are common concerns when confronted with time constraints—’If only I had more time’.

However, when given time we may need to decompress, take a vacation, or empty our mind from work and career goals. That is okay in moderation, but laziness and comfortability will subdue us just as stress and anxiety would. Both end with missed deadlines, goals, and most of all, a poor mental state.

Recognizing the importance of taking action in our lives is a truth many of us are acquainted with. Showing up at work, investing hours, and completing tasks are necessary actions, crucial for survival. However, these are often reactive actions initiated by external forces—a task assigned by a boss, a looming deadline set by the team, or extra responsibilities taken on to secure a pay raise or promotion.

In my role as a life coach, I strive to understand each client holistically. Yet, if a client lacks personal passions, hobbies, or goals, it poses a challenge.

Time + Action* = The Death to Anxiety

That is the formula I gave before. But there is an asterisk to it. The action must be proactive, a definitive and voluntary choice. Anxiety stems from our amygdala, a part of the limbic system, and the oldest part of our brain. Throughout eons, these emotions have existed in human beings and many other animals. Do you think these people were reporting for work in a corporate office? No. They had ‘work-like’ obligations, such as hunting and gathering, that they did when the emotional need called for it.

Identify your emotional need. What sparks passion in your life? Which ladder will you ascend so fervently that, even if you stumble, you'll have no hesitation to climb back up? That's where action must be directed. It's this action alone, coupled with ample allocated time, that diminishes anxiety from your life.

Yes, traditional work stress may still exist, but where you derive value and satisfaction in your life will differ. Where you find meaning or the parts of your life you view as most important will change. In the conscious and intentional reconfiguration of your life, you'll unveil your authentic self.
